Wow!, rough piano blues new for me!!. Great thanks!

b. c.1915, USA. Holley was recorded in April 1977 by George Paulus of Barrelhouse Records, who estimated his age as ‘early sixties’. Holley had travelled throughout the southern USA and played in St. Louis and Detroit before settling in Chicago. He reputedly played blues piano at house parties and at the Provident Barber Shop on Saturdays for many years, and his recordings reveal a traditionally based pianist with a large repertoire and an ability to improvise memorable lyrics over a tough piano accompaniment. Holley is important as ‘one of the last of the house party entertainers’ but remains a very obscure figure, although he is reportedly still living in the Chicago area.
